Retainers are easy to remove when you need to eat or brush your teeth. The trouble is that they are also easy to misplace! Often people wrap up their retainer in a tissue or napkin and forget about them. A good solution to this problem is to keep your retainer case handy! Pack it in your backpack, purse or pocket.
Your retainer is delicate! Be sure not to leave it on a chair or laying around where it can get stepped or sat on! We also recommend removing your retainer before any physical activities (you can swap it out for a mouthguard instead!). To keep your retainer clean, brush your retainer, just like your teeth to keep it from growing any bacteria and prevent smells!
The purpose of your retainer is to prevent your teeth from moving from their new position. It is important to diligently wear your retainer to keep your new smile! Typically, we recommend wearing your retainer close to 24 hours a day for the first 6 months following treatment. After 6 months, you may only need to wear your retainer during the night.
