Braces can be a lifestyle adjustment for some patients. You may be worried about what types of foods to eat and not to eat. When it comes to having braces a few changes to your diet will help! At myORTHODONTIST, we have some tips and tricks to make the decisions a little easier for you!
In the first few weeks of having new braces, you’ll want to think ‘soft‘ when deciding what to eat. A healthy option can be a smoothie, where you can mix in protein and nutrients to ensure a well-balanced meal.
Here’s a healthy smoothie recipe you can try:
- Milk (almond and coconut also work well)
- 2 large spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup of frozen berry mix
- 1 handful of spinach
- 1 scoop whey protein powder
- 3 ice cubes
You don’t have to sacrifice taste! Other delicious soft foods you can enjoy include tender turkey pieces, mashed potatoes, soups, chili, pudding, oatmeal and yogurt.
If you enjoyed having raw fruits or veggies, try to switch to a cooked version so the food becomes soft. Another healthy alternative to try is if you loved eating apples you can try baking them so they become soft and add a little cinnamon!
Remember when making decisions about your diet, your health is the priority! Keep it safe for your teeth and braces, just one bad bite can compromise treatment! A healthy choice for your diet will go a long way for orthodontic treatment and overall health. If you have any questions about your new braces, don’t hesitate to ask us! At myORTHODONTIST in Calgary, we are invested in your smile!
