Invisalign Clear Aligners are a great way for children or teens to achieve a confident and healthier smile. However, maintaining Invisalign aligners and keeping them clean during treatment is important to prevent any problems along their smile journey. Here at myORTHODONTIST Calgary, we ensure that our young patients follow essential tips to clean their Invisalign aligners properly. We are happy to provide our patients with tips and tricks to help!

During summer, it can be easier to take care of your Invisalign aligners. With no school or homework, there is more time to brush your teeth after meals and clean your aligners. It is important that you clean your aligners every time you take them out of your mouth. For example, after eating, brush and floss your teeth, then brush your aligners the same way you brush your teeth. Make sure to also soak your aligners at least once or twice a week using Invisalign Cleaning Crystals to keep them clean and debris free.

When back at school, it can become more challenging to take care and clean your aligners because of your busy schedule. However, you should keep in mind that regularly cleaning your aligners will ensure a healthy treatment. You can bring an orthodontic and oral hygiene kit to school, which includes your toothbrush, floss and Invisalign storage container.

Ideally, you should brush your teeth and clean your aligners after every meal or snack, but if you’re in a time crunch, you can rinse your mouth with water and clean aligners while holding them under warm running water.

If you are active with sports activities, you should tell your orthodontist about it. Your orthodontist will provide you a mouthguard that can protect your teeth when playing sports or participating in outdoor activities. This way, you can remove your Invisalign clear aligners before playing and use your mouthguard instead.

Every time that you need to take out your Invisalign aligners, make sure to put them in a protective case to prevent them from damage or getting lost. Although you have the freedom to remove your aligners as you need to, it’s important to keep them in at least 90% of the day (or as prescribed) to keep your treatment moving forward.

Keeping your Invisalign aligners clean is necessary if you want to achieve a healthy and confident smile. If you need additional tips to take care of your aligners, don’t hesitate to contact our office in McKenzie Towne and Okotoks. Our teams are always here to help you with your orthodontic treatment!
