We love the Halloween season at myORTHODONTIST! We want to reassure you that you can still participate in all the spooky festivities with braces! Our team of orthodontic professionals have put together some tips and tricks to make the most of your Halloween this year!

Caring For Braces This Halloween

All the same rules apply on Halloween as they would any other time of the year. This means those with braces still need to stay away from any treats that are very sticky, hard and/or chewy. Some of the worst candies for braces include taffy, bubble gum, gummies and any chocolate with nuts or caramel in it. Attempting to eat one of these treats will definitely scare Dr. Dhol and Dr. Kotyk, as they could result in broken brackets and/or wire! Those with braces should stick to softer treats this Halloween, such as KitKats, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Aero bars.

Even if you don’t have braces, oral hygiene is the most important thing to remember on Halloween! Consuming refined carbs causes the bacteria in our mouth to produce acid for approximately 20 minutes. This acid can lead to many problems if not washed away thoroughly! If you have braces, make sure to clean your appliance well and double check that no tiny food particles are stuck!

If you have Invisalign this Halloween, remember to remove your trays before eating and follow the proper oral hygiene routine before putting them back in.

Local Halloween Fun

We understand that Halloween is not quite the same this year. That being said, Calgary still has many events taking place for the spooky season! If you’re looking for something spooktacular to do, we recommend the following:
